![]() I'm really looking forward to playing this when it arrives in the next few days. I've officially hopped of the fence and have gone from lukewarm to super-hyped since reviews started to drop. It looks like a real labour of love, for what it is. ![]() The positive reviews refer to a feeling of quality in terms of game feel, presentation and overall polish. I love the Megadrive games, but I'm a 40 year old man and likely not this game's intended core audience. I see lamentations of the art style, which I get, but this is the current style used for Mickey and Co. I'm not sure what other people's expectations are. At my advancing years, it can be somewhat of a relief at times. A game being less difficult or god forbid, easy (!!!) is enough to invalidate my enjoyment. I like having more 'accessible' game to play with the Mrs or younger family. I had some reservations and low expectations of this game, but kept a cautious eye on it after reading a few articles that said some fancy-tickling things.Īfter reading/watching a range of reviews yesterday I took the plunge. "Disney Illusion Island’s platforming may be extremely polished but it’s not particularly inventive, and nor is it likely to appeal to anyone who favours a more combat-oriented Metroidvania experience – its enemies are strictly for dodging rather than destroying, and its small assortment of boss fights are mostly anticlimactic. If you’re after a frictionless, family-friendly platforming adventure that’s heavy on charm and light on challenge, then Disney Illusion Island fits the bill better than a muzzle on Donald Duck." ![]() The team at IGN wasn't quite as glowing, but still served up a score of 7 out of 10: This is the platonic ideal for an entry-level platformer because it is filled with smartly designed gameplay that takes well-worn tropes and makes them more approachable for everyone while still providing a nice romp for those experienced with these types of games." "it stands out as being just as well-crafted but skewing towards a different, gentler experience. Nintendo World Report thought it was a blast and a nice change of pace from the "hard-as-nails Metroidvanias" giving it 9 out of 10: ![]()
